Myakka City

Myakka City (also Myakka) is an unincorporated community in southeastern Manatee County. It lies east of Sarasota, Lakewood Ranch, and Bradenton. Myakka City gets its name from the Mayaca Indian Tribe in Port Mayaca on the eastern shore of Lake Okeechobee. Myakka was settled in 1850 by a bunch of cattlemen. Myakka is still home to many of the original ranching families who gazed the lands with their beef cattle. If you are looking for a home or farm in the country with lots of peace, tranquility and privacy, this might be the perfect place for you. You can find plenty of rural acreage properties available out east.

Myakka is also the home of the well-known Dakin Dairy Farm, which is the only dairy farm in Florida open to the public that produces and bottles their own milk right on the farm. They incorporate 1,000 acres of grazing land with sustainable practices including year-round production of fresh grasses rich in omegas and conjugated linoleic acids that are incorporated into their cows’ diet. They offer public tours.

Nearby, popular Myakka State Park is one of Florida’s remaining wildlife animal parks that includes scenic rivers where you can see alligators, beautiful wild birds nesting and other wildlife. There is an amazing observation lookout deck and more than 40 miles of hiking trails.
